International Conference for UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) Held in South Korea

According to a report from the public relations sector of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, the 5th International Conference for the UNESCO GNLC was held in South Korea. This conference was the largest gathering of mayors and experts from cities in the Learning Cities network since the spread of COVID. Javad Mahmoudi, the mayor of Bandar Khumir, as the only Iranian mayor present at the conference, gave speeches and attended several meetings.

One of the most important accomplishments of this conference was mayors and different field experts exchanging views with one another, as well as attending cities becoming familiar with the latest experiences and achievements of each other in the fields of education and learning.

Bandar Khumir was registered as one of the Learning Cities in 2020 due to its continuous activities to increase awareness about the importance of wetlands and biosphere reserves. The city has been selected as the most active Learning City from Iran, and now its activities are acknowledged by the international community as well.

As of now, 225 cities from 64 countries are members of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, including 10 cities from Iran. Learning Cities are those that can prove they have created positive changes in their societies and provided solutions for their urban issues through the direct and indirect education of all its citizens.
