Mr (Eng.) Alireza Amri Kazemi, Head of the Department of Geoparks and Geological Heritage of the Geological Survey of Iran was elected as member to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network. The Director General of UNESCO has elected 12 members to this committee from around the world for a two-year terms of service.
Members are elected from among experts on geoparks. The Network, advises and recommends to the DG on the strategies, programmes and implementation of issues related to the geopraks. In addition, the Network is in charge of considering nominations for creating new geoparks or extending the membership of already existing ones in the global network. It also recommends to the Executive Board on the establishment or extension of existing geoparks.
